On Wednesday evening the Cruisers and friends walked a couple of laps around Lafarge Lake, viewing the spectacular Christmas lights display. Highly recommended if you haven’t gone yet!
Brenda, Glenn, Kevin, NIkita, her sister Andrea, Larry, Eoin, Laura, and their friends, and Maureen, June, and their husbands (friends of Edie) attended, quite a group!
Our walk distance was about 2.5 km.

On Saturday morning Len, Miriam with Jax, René, Edie, Flora, and Larry walked, and Flora jogged part of the way, on Cameron, the trail to Government St., then Cariboo Rd. and into the Burnaby Lake trail to Piper Spit where we observed the mallard ducks with their thick winter feather coats swimming in the shallow part of the lake.
The air was chilly, it was 0 C when we started out, but the sunshine was gorgeous as Len, Miriam and Flora recounted their great Friday hike in similar fabulous late autumn (chilly) weather. We returned to Cameron Centre the same way, our distance 8 km and our time 1h48.

On Wednesday evening Brenda, Glenn, Nikita, Edie, Alex, René and Larry walked along Beaverbrook, Eastlake to Underhill and back the same way. Our distance was about 5 km and our time was 1h06. Alex jogged before joining the group, going to Lyndhurst, 2 km, 20 minutes, then jogged at the end of our walk, his total distance 6.9 km and his time 1h19.
Again we were blessed with clear skies, a bright moon and not too chilly if you dress warmly. Some North Burnaby Runners passed us on the way back on Eastlake, good to see them still running.

On a chilly but gorgeous sunny Saturday morning Len (with Jax), Flora, René, Kevin and Larry walked down Cameron, along the trail between Eastlake and Government, Government to Cariboo, Joe’s trail to North Road and returned the same way. We didn’t see any salmon although the Brunette River water was flowing with adequate volume. Flora jogged most of the way on Joe’s trail and on Cariboo.
Our distance was about 8.5 km and time was 1h50. There was a good discussion about possible Xmas walking trips, watch for announcements to come shortly.

Thank you to all 20 Cruisers who attended our dinner at Browns Social House on Wednesday evening. It was nice to see some of the “original” Cruisers again! Special thanks to Edie for the birthday cards and chocolates for those celebrating birthdays within the current month, and to Flora and Len for the photos. Eoin, Laura and Ivan send their regrets for being unable to attend, and say hello to all the Cruisers. We’ll see them again hopefully soon.
Kevin has a good idea for a future Cruiser outing, see the link below. Date and time TBA.

On Saturday morning the Cruisers were spared the worst of the heavy rain as it stopped raining just before we started out on our walk. There were light rainy intervals during our walk but not too bad. Edie, Flora, René, Kevin, Miriam, and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road. Edie and Larry continued on to Rathburn and back to the trail, while the rest of the group continued along Jim’s Jungle to Burnaby Mountain then down North Road and back along the creek trail.
The group spotted some chum salmon in the creek. The creek water level was medium to high and flowing well as a result of the rain from the last couple of days, good for the salmon.
Distance for the group was about 5.5 km and time about 1h40. Larry and Edie’s distance was about 4 km and time 1 hour.
Afterwards Edie, Flora and Larry enjoyed breakfast at IHOP.
