On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane, Edie, René, and Larry walked down Cameron, through Eastlake Park, the trail from Eastlake to Government, Cariboo and into Burnaby Lake trails to Piper Spit, said hello to the ducks, then returned the same way.
Distance was 8 km and time was 1h45. It was cloudy but mild. Liane got grazed by one of the small birds at the Spit pier, as it was probably looking for food. Flora stopped by to say hello before we ventured out and before she left for her Fit First run.
From Flora: Flora ran a 8 km route with the Fit First group, going along Lougheed, Bainbridge, Broadway, Cliff Ave., Union St., Kensington Ave., Sperling and back to the Christine Sinclair Centre.

On Monday evening, Liane, Nikita, and Larry walked the Stoney Creek trail, up Jim’s Jungle trail to Burnaby Mountain, taking the steepest hill after coming out of the woods to the gravel trail that leads to North Road, then down North Road to Stoney Creek trail again, then back to the Centre. It was sunny so we were able to do the entire walk in the trails.
Our distance was about 5.5 km and our time was about 1h10. As we were finishing up, Flora jogged in and joined us as she jogged along Stoney Creek a bit later than us, then jogged along Chapman, Robinson, Foster, Willoughby and back to Cameron Centre, her distance 6.16 km and time 1h03.

On Saturday morning Liane, Kevin, Edie, her sister Chris and Chris’ husband Glen enjoyed the sunshine by walking at Rocky Point, taking the lower trail on the way out to Old Orchard Beach, where Kevin, Edie, Chris and Glen turned back and walked along the upper trail to the fish hatchery and toured around there, while Larry and Liane continued on Alderside to Ioco Road and returned on the upper trail and met the foursome just coming out of the hatchery, and the group continued back to the ice cream shop where ice cream was enjoyed by all. Walk time was about 2 hours. Larry and Liane’s distance was 10 km while Kevin, Edie, Chris and Glen’s distance was about 5.5 km.
It sure warmed up as the morning progressed! Flora and Nikita met the group at Rocky Point, coming over after their run with the Fit First group, also enjoying ice cream.
From Flora: Flora, Nikita, and Rachel joined the 5 km runners at Fit First at Christine Sinclair Centre and did a 5 km run at a faster pace, time of 45 minutes, enjoying the fine weather. Kudos to Sam who completed an 18 km run!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day everyone!

On Wednesday evening Kevin, Sandy, Nikita, Edie (welcome back Edie, walking strong!), Eoin, Laura with Lucky, and Larry walked the first weekday evening trail walk of the year on Stoney Cree k trail to North Road, then proceeded on North Road to Still Creek, then cut through the Lyndhurst Elementary school field to Willoughby, then back to Cameron Centre, our distance about 5 km and time 50 minutes. We had daylight for almost all of our walk, and it’s only going to get better from now on.

On Monday evening Kevin, Nikita, Eoin, Laura and Larry walked from the Centre along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill to Broadway and returned the same way, our distance about 5 km and time 1h30.
It was drizzly, which wasn’t too bad but it was windy – that arctic cold, wow, it sure made it tough to keep our brollies intact! It was nice to see Eoin and Laura.

On Saturday morning Kevin, Liane, René and Larry met at Cameron Centre and walked up along Willoughby, crossed North Road at Foster and went up Foster to Robinson and met Edie, and the five of us walked around Coquitlam in the MIller Park area for about 3 km then circled back to Grover where we dropped off Edie at her home, then walked up to Smith where René headed home, and the remaining threesome walked back to Cameron Centre, total distance about 7 km and time of 1h40. René walked about the same distance as he walked from home to Cameron Centre to meet the group. Edie seems to be doing well and it was nice to walk with her – she says hi to all the Cruisers!
From Flora: Also on Saturday morning, Flora did a run with the Fit First running clinic, doing speed work on the Kensington pedestrian overpass. She experienced some initial pain on the uphill but felt good at the end, hopefully muscles warming up. Sam, who has run with us recently, did a 17 km distance run in his group. Also, a former work colleague of Flora’s joined her 10 km distance group.

On Saturday morning Liane, Kevin, and Larry met at Rocky Point and walked along the inlet trail as far as we could, but large portions of it were blocked off due to construction of new bridges over waterways, but we continued to Old Orchard Beach and along Alderside Road to Ioco Road, then took the upper trail on the way back, which was mostly gravel, but it looked like the sewer and water lines have now been fully installed. The wooden bridges along the trail that were open were quite slippery early on due to slight ice accumulation but it warmed up and this wasn’t an issue on our return and we enjoyed our ice cream after – new featured flavours!
Our walk distance was 10 km and our time was about 2 hours. Rocky Point Ice Cream was having a hiring fair at the Creamery building and there was a fairly long lineup there as we returned to the parking lot. It would be a nice place to work!
From Flora: Also on Saturday morning, Flora’s Fit First running clinic did a 6.95 km run around Deer Lake in a time of 59 minutes. Good coffee and treats after too. I’m not sure if Rachel and Nikita were there this week.
From Alex: Also on Saturday morning, Alex did the Park Run at Central Park – 500 m warm up, then 5 km timed run (40m41) followed by a 3 km recovery run; total distance 8.5 km and total time 1h17:44.
From Jennel: Anamaria (and coach Tony) are going to the U16 Volleyball National Finals in Edmonton!! Their team, Focus Volleyball Club, qualified!
