On Canada Day July 1st  RA Edie with April,  Eoin and Laura, Alex, Larry, Sherian, Bobtoc, and the following friends of Edie, Maureen with her dog Chester, Erin and Jenna with their dog Guiness and June, walked from the Eileen Dailly swimming pool at Confederation Park  at 8:30 a.m. to the Brighton swim pool in Vancouver via the route of Willingdon Ave. north to the trail starting at  McGill Street heading west to Boundary Road then Fellowes Road, then north on Bridgeview, continuing west finally to the Brighton Park.  The park was busy with folks picnicking and/or enjoying the water in the pool.  The group enjoyed beautiful weather

and a warm temperature.  The group stayed in the Park for some time, taking in the scenery.  After some time, the group retraced its steps to return to Confederation Park.  A number then walked to the coffee shop at Rosser and Hastings Street, north east corner, for coffee.  Total time out, on the walk to and from Brighton Park plus the time in the park,  2.57, distance guesstimate  12 km.

Coquitlam Cruisers:
My  family has been getting tons of walks in.  On Friday, we brought Nellie on a 7.5km walk from our house through Bert Flynn Park.  Gorgeous…..that’s just at the top of IOCO road, beside Heritage Mountain High School….on the East side of Rocky Point.  A Hidden Gem for sure!  Great Dog walking running path…it’s a forest in the middle of the city!!! Happy Canada Day!!!

Coquitlam Cruisers:
From Jennel  Tuesday: I’m running short on minutes to get to the computer to type my report!!! LOL  Monday evening, I ran 2 laps of Lafarge Lake 5km while Tony was playing volleyball in the sand courts, and Tuesday morning walked the crunch with Nellie.  Saw a sign “Found Wedding Ring”, please call this number if yours.  Poor person who lost their wedding ring – but awesome someone found it for them!  Here I was upset as I lost $20 on the crunch a couple weeks ago.  No sign for “found $20” though!?!

Thursday July 11 2019:  diGiro Burnaby
Once again, the Cruisers Flora, Bob, Larry, Edie, Angela and Alex volunteered for the diGiro Burnaby bike race.  All went smoothly except taking down the stage, which made our stint a bit longer.  Great shirts this year!  Len and Miriam were spectators.

Wednesday July 24th:
On Wednesday, Cruisers Edie, Alex, Larry, Kevin, Norman, Flora, Rene, Rick, Laura and Bobtoc

embarked from Edie’s home on Grover Avenue south and east via a long, steep trail with many steps and streets in Coquitlam leading to Rocky Point, with specifically to Murray Street on which the Parkside Brewery is located, to fulfill the long-awaited pilgrimage listed on our Upcoming Events for eons.   Eoin drove down to Rocky Point and joined

the  rest there.  The trek down to the brewery took 2 hours 34 minutes; sorry, do not have the distance.  The Cruisers found the brewery busy indeed, so lost no time in getting beers, of all kinds, to slake thirsts and enjoy the excitement of the event.   The brewery was packed with folks enjoying the products of the brewery and the company of friends.  Eoin and Laura were gracious enough, for which I thank them, to ferry me back to Edie’s home to let me collect my car and drive home, therefore missing the trek made by the others back to Edie’s home to their respective cars.  Alex provides the following description of the trek made by the other Cruisers back from Rocky Point to Edie’s, for which I thank him:

Route taken from Rocky Point Park back to Edie’s house:
South bound on Moody St., Westbound on Henry St., continued on Gatensbury Rd., Westbound on Bartlett Ave., southbound on Lillian St., crossed the field of Harbour View Elementary School and then through the back lane between Porter St. and Jarvis St.; westbound on Spring Ave and then Leland Ave. ,then turned South on Blue Mountain St., crossed the parking lot of Coquitlam Presbyterian Church to Grover Ave.. Total distance 8.07km. time out including time spent in the brewery : 3 hours 8 minutes.
All in all, a pleasant but rugged outing.  My thanks to Edie for her vision several months ago to make the trek, and admiration of all who participated!

 Wednesday July 31st:

Alex, Rod, Susan, Larry and Bobtoc’s walk on Wednesday started from the Centre, continued to the Stoney Creek trail, into the elementary school grounds, crossed the street to the Gaglardi overpass to Forest Grove Drive, westward to Underhill, south to Eastlake then east back to the Centre.  Alex and Bobtoc tried out the blackberries, many of which were prime, and thus lagged behind the others, the result being that Rod, Susan and Larry returned to the Centre faster than Alex and Bobtoc.  Distance for all, 6.7 km;  time for Rod, Susan and Larry .1:24; for Alex and Bobtoc, 1:42.  Yes, the longer time used due to the blackberries was time well spent.  Life is good.
