The Frau Princesses at The Ugly Sweater Run

Saturday December 1st:  Flora, RA Edie with April, Larry , Rick, Rene Susan and Bobtoc met at the Centre Saturday on a little or  no-rain ,+3C temp which rose to +C temperature morning.  The route used was from the Centre to Joe’s Trail.  Two groups formed, the first being Larry, Rick, Rene, and later Flora, and the other group being after Flora moved up, RA Edie, Bobtoc.  The groups chose as their  destination Joe’s trail.  The first group moved faster than the second froup, doing the the run/walk returning to Cameron Centre in time of 1.3  and distance of 7+km. The other group did the ’walk in  1.50 time, same distance.
Another beautiful day along Joe’s Trail

Monday December 3rd:  On Monday on a cool to cold no rain evening, R.A. Edie with April, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre and walked the Eastlake route to Underhill and return; distance and time,  4.75 km and 1.13 respectively.

Wednesday December 5th:  Sixteen Cruisers and spouses enjoyed a delicious meal and fellowship at Cristos  Greek restaurant Wednesday evening. Our thanks to RA Edie for her diligence in organizing the dinner meeting there!  The food, service, and fellowship were outstanding!

Saturday December 8th:  Rod, Larry, Susan, Rick and Bobtoc  met at the Centre Saturday on a cold  2C  morning with clouds in the sky threatening rain, which did not occur until the turnaround of the five from the Spit and Nature House on the north trail leading to Burnaby Lake.  The route was Cameron Street west to the trail leading south to Government Street, then west to Cariboo road then into the north trail.  The trail was a bit slippery underfoot so care was needed to maintain footing.  Rod, Larry and Rick teamed up for the walk, as did Susan and Bobtoc.   The five then returned from the Nature house at which point Rick ran, and the other four walked, and at the point rain, albeit gentle, commenced.   Did not get Rick’s time for his return as he had left the Centre before the walkers had returned.  Distance for the route, 7.5 km; times for Rod and Larry, 2.49, and for Susan and Bobtoc, 2.54.
From Edie:
Laurie, my sister Chris, my dog April and I walked The Ugly Weather Run at Rocky Point.  The course  was wet and slippery in places; we didn’t take any pictures and because we walked we turned back early so did 2.9k.  It was fun to see all the outfits and the kids though.  They do less and less for this event every year but we did get a small ice cream from Rocky Point.

Wednesday December 12th: On Wednesday evening, Rod and Larry, who are vocally challenged when it comes to singing, walked from Cameron Centre along Beaverbrook, Stoney Creek school, across Gaglardi overpass and up the big hill along Forest Grove Drive to the top at Ash Grove Crescent, then returned the same way.  Amazingly, it was not raining most of the way, and when it did rain it was light rain – we were really lucky and glad because we were not wearing hip waders.

From the Coquitlam Cruisers: Heather & Jennel met at Port Moody Rec. Centre Tuesday morning and briskly walked around the track for an hour or so……it was POURING rain, so we were “Fair-weather Runners/walkers” and took the drier option 🙂

Saturday December 15th:  On Saturday morning, unexpected beautiful sunshine and mild temperature favoured Rod, Larry, Flora, Susan, Edie and canine April as they walked Joe’s trail route and returned.  Santa hats also attended with Flora and Larry, and April who wore a cute Santa coat that Susan picked up for her.  Distance 7.5 km, time 1h33.  Getting in the Christmas spirit!   Some of us looking forward to running (yes, running!) again soon.  J
Monday December 17th:  On Monday evening, a visit indeed was made to the home of Laura and Eoin to inspect and talk to the Farrelly twosome.  Eoin is using a wheeled gizmo to assist him in moving about, and experiences some pain when so moving; however, he is cheery, enough to talk some about Manchester U, and we find out today that Man U indeed fired their manager who had poor results over the last couple of years,  Laura is experiencing retirement from SFU; the withdrawal can be joyful bur takes training.  She was in good spirits, as was Eoin, when Flora, Edie and Bobto paid the Monday evening visitation.  The weather was dreadful, but the visit was great. Thank you, Laura and Eoin, for your hospitality.

Wednesday December 19th:

On Wednesday evening Rod, Larry and Bobtoc met at the Centre with the intent to walk in the neighborhood and view the Christmas lights on homes and trees.  They therefore walked in the Sullivan Heights area starting on Noel Drive, and went east and north in the area.  They enjoyed a mild temperature of + 6C, no rain, and were favourably impressed with the artistry of the homeowners, including that of Rod and Pat’s home.  Distance and time, 4 k and 2:06  respectively.

Saturday December 22nd:

On Saturday morning Rod, Larry, Susan and Ivan walked the Stoney Creek trail to North Road, where Susan departed to Lougheed Mall, and the remaining three lads went up North Road to the Burnaby Mountain powerline trail where Ivan ran up to the junction of that trail and the other Burnaby Mountain trails, waited for walkers Rod and Larry to catch up, then the three returned to Cameron the same way, with Ivan running ahead on the Stoney Creek trail.  It was raining but we were happy to get out for some fresh air before taking care of last minute stuff before Christmas.  Time 1h40 and distance very close to 8 km.  Santa hats were worn by some, and lights on Rod’s festive car.
Merry Christmas to all !!  J

Saturday December 29th:  On Saturday morning Rod, Larry, Susan, Ivan, Rick and Flora met at Cameron on a dark, rainy morning and at first wondered why we came out, but then the rain lightened a bit, and Rick and Ivan were keen to run, so the two headed out to Joe’s Trail and back to the Centre, distance 7.5K in 1h04m – they were stopped a good while at the train cross.  It was a looooong train.   It turned out to be a fairly warm, dryish run until the last quarter of the trail when it started raining lots, all the way until we returned to the centre.
The rest of the group chose to walk 1 km, by walking to and from Tim Horton’s at North Road, where coffee, hot chocolate and some refreshments were enjoyed.  Ivan joined us after his run and provided timbits/lardballs which were appreciated.
Happy New Year to all!
