November 2017
Sunset view over Mundy Park taken by Flora

November 1st: Rod and Larry turned out on Wednesday night, which was a bit cooler but still a nice night for a run, which they did, doing the Beaverbrook-Eastlake-Underhill route, then over the hill and back along Forest Grove.  Distance about 7 km, time for Larry about 47 minutes, for Rod 55 minutes (he ran most of the way and felt good!).

Bobtoc is at home doing well.
Coquitlam Cruisers: Heather ran 10 km Wednesday in the DRY weather, Jennel walked 8 km with her umbrella in the RAIN on Thursday 🙁   Well at least it ain’t snow!!    10 days until the Vegas Half for both Jennel and Heather!

November 4th:  On Saturday, nine Cruises turned out on a chilly but no snow morning.  We all did our usual weeknight route of Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill and return along Forest Grove, etc.  Eoin, Laura, Len (and Jax), Miriam, Susan and Flora walked, while Larry and Rod mostly ran, and Len and Flora did some running too.  The walkers’ distance was about 7 km in a time of 1h20 and the runners’ time was about 1h05.  Larry did some bobturns and ran up the Forest Grove hill as well before returning, his distance about 8.5 km.  René also walked from home to meet with the group at Cameron, then walked home, about 4 or 5 km in total, giving his healing toe a break from running for now.
Coquitlam Cruisers:  On Friday Heather & Jennel both woke up the SNOW!!!  4 letter word!!?!?  However, the two of them laced up and went for a run regardless.  Heather 10 km, Jennel 12.65 km….Last run together before Vegas!
Only one week to go!!

More Rocky Point pictures – you can’t have too many!

November 6th: On Monday night, two Cruisers, Flora and Rod, power walked the Forest Grove loop, starting at a balmy 1 degree and finishing at 0 degrees.  Great evening given the current weather patterns, but certainly not the best night of the year. (unless you are an eskimo).  Time out 1h17, distance 7 km.
Thanks to Rod for the report!

November 8th: On Wednesday night, Laura, Eoin, Rod and Larry took advantage of a nice, mild evening, although it sure was dark.  Larry ran the Forest Grove route and returned using Underhill, Eastlake and Beaverbrook to Cameron, distance 7 km, time about 45 minutes, while Laura, Eoin and Rod walked along Beaverbrook, Eastlake to Underhill and return, distance about 4.5 km, time about 50 minutes.  We all got our activities finished before the rain started!   Meanwhile, Flora informed that she had an appointment with her treadmill.
Bobtoc says hello to the Cruisers, is doing well and looks forward to getting up to full strength, although that will take a bit more time…
Len and Miriam and Friends Enjoy a Snowshoeing Outing

Best of luck to the Coquitlam Cruisers, Heather and Jennel, at this weekend’s Vegas Half Marathon!!  No doubt they will have better weather there than we will here.

November 13th: On Monday morning we beat the rain and wind – it actually was sunny for a few minutes. It was amazing given the rotten weather forecast!  Rod, Larry, René, Edie (with April), and Eoin, met at Rocky Point and enjoyed a walk to the Port Moody Rec Centre to see if the Remembrance Day display was still there, but the building was closed.  Eoin and Edie (with April) continued their walk, about 4 or 5 km.  Rod, René and Larry walked along the trail for a bit, looking at the salmon trying to spawn, then while Rod and René walked along Alderside, Larry ran to Alderside and April Road, then along Ioco Road to the pearly gates at the Ioco refinery, and returned, catching up with R&R and eventually meeting them back at the ice cream shop.  Flora joined us there after walking along the lower trail shoreline.  Rod’s and René’s distance was 10 km and time about 2h, while Larry did a 3 km walk in just under 1h then a 10 km run in 52 minutes.  Yes we did partake of the ice cream and coffee – breakfast of champions!

From Jennel:  Oh my gosh!!!  The Vegas Half Marathon was a BLAST!!!!!!  Heather & I had such a great weekend…from the Expo to Race Day…..including the live band (Goo Goo Dolls) and all the perks given to us runners…dinners/drinks etc!  I sent Edie some pics of us for the Cruisers Web Page.  I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun we had!  The first 2.5 miles was in silence (no bands playing) because we were giving respect to the victims of the shooting that just took place.  That was great.  Then an orchestra played with violins and trumpets….that was just beautiful.  We each bought a Vegas Strong Running T-shirt and proceeds went to the victims’ hospital bills.  That was lovely of the organizers to do.  There was live entertainment every mile.  Lots of security.  Weather was fantastic…..lights were shining everywhere!  Crowds were amazing!  Tonnes of support from all those around!!!  It’s going to be hard to top this run!!!!

November 15th:  On Wednesday evening, Laura, Eoin and Larry walked but did slightly different routes…Laura and Eoin walked along Beaverbrook and Eastlake to Underhill and returned, their distance about 4.5 km and time 1 hour.  Larry intended to run but experienced some tenderness in his midsection so walked the Forest Grove route and returned along Underhill, Eastlake etc., distance 7 km and time 1h05.  Amazingly there was no rain resulting in a nice evening to be out, continuing our strange run of good luck for weather on Wednesday evenings.

November 18th:

November 18th:  On Saturday, nine Cruisers plus a canine came out and enjoyed the unexpected break in the rain, furthering our strange good luck with weather lately.  We walked/ran Joe’s trail and saw what I think was chum salmon making their way up the Brunette River to spawn, which is late in the season but evidently still in progress.   Len, Miriam and Eoin (with Jax) walked 6.9 km, time 1h15, while the rest of the group made their way right to the North Road gates, distance 7.25 km, with Edie, Susan, Laura and Alex all doing walk/run intervals in a time of 1h15, and Larry and Ivan running in a time of 1h02.  Alex, making his return after a few weeks away, gave pairs of socks to the group, having acquired the socks while travelling.  Thanks for the socks Alex!

Thanks Alex for the report!
November 22nd: On Wednesday, Larry ran along Beaverbrook, Eastlake to Underhill, up and around the Forest Grove route and back to Cameron Centre.  Our good luck with the weather ran out (ha ha), sorry to say it rained for the entire run but it was mild, about 14 C.  Distance about 7.5 km, time 50 minutes.
November 25th: Saturday morning saw 11 Cruisers attend and enjoy a rainless, mild morning as Ivan, Larry and René did Sun Run interval training with Edie using Joe’s Trail, going to the gate at North Road and returning, distance 8 km and time just under 1 hour.  René and Larry then ran back to Government Road (an additional 2 km there and back) to meet the others who were returning from their walks, also along Joe’s Trail, with Susan, Eoin, Alex and Len in the lead, followed by Laura, Miriam and Bobtoc, with Bobtoc returning for his first walk since late October.  Apparently Laura, Susan, Miriam and Bobtoc did not quite get to the gate at North Road on Joe’s Trail but that’s okay…this time, ha ha.  Time for the walkers in and around 1h42.
From Jennel: On Monday, Nov 20th, Jennel had a nice run along the sandy beach in Puerto Vallarta in her bare feet – as the crystal blue water was rolling up on shore in the beautiful 32 degree weather.  Approx 45 min. run…on “Mexican time”!!!   Ran back to the resort and enjoyed a Pina Colada!  Now that’s how you do a run!!! ha! ha!

November 27th:  Rainy night – Rod and Edie and Edie’s friend, Nancy met at Cameron, walked to Tim Horton’s and had coffee, hot chocolate and tea.

November 29th:

On Wednesday night, Rod and Larry ran along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill and returned via Forest Grove.  Distance about 7.5 km, time for Larry 52 minutes, time for Rod 58 minutes.  Both slowly getting back in shape!  It was 7 C but felt colder, and the rain was starting when we finished.  We saw the large group of SFU runners (about 30) at Eastlake and Beaverbrook, running the other way and it inspired us even though they were much younger.
