Coquitlam Cruisers:
On Thursday Heather & Jennel joined up with another friend Thursday at noon and hiked 7km of the Coquitlam Crunch.
October 5th: Here’s a picture of a new “swabbie” just before we went for a ride and me playing Cruiser of Arabia.
The weirdest feeling, especially when they get up after kneeling for you to get on.
Moving back to Casablanca tomorrow then to London via Lisbon.
Back home Tuesday. A trip to remember.
Rod and PatOctober 7th:On Saturday morning Larry and Rene’, Flora and Susan, Len with granddog Jax and Bobtoc met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot to run or walk west using the Central Park Greenway. Larry and Rene’ ran as far as Rupert St in Vancouver and return; their distance and time12.8 km and 1:30 to 1:40 respectively. Flora and Susan walked west also, to the Jack’s Building Supplies on Still Creek Road, immersed themselves on the inside and outside displays, eg second hand bathtubs, pink in colour, toilets, ??, etc., before returning to the parking lot, their distance and time about 6 km and time 2:08 respectively. Len and Bobtoc walked with Jax on leash to Gilmore Ave and return, their distance and time 9.6 and 2:04 respectively. The six enjoyed a no precip, easy temperature for their outing.
Coquitlam Cruisers:
On Thursday Heather and Jennel joined up with another friend Thursday at noon and hiked 7km of the Coquitlam Crunch. On Saturday Jennel focussed on blueberry and apple pies for her Sunday family Thanksgiving dinner, having produced photos to prove. Look great!
October 9th: Flora, Larry and Bobtoc met at the Runnel Drive parking lot to walk the Coquitlam Crunch on a dry and cool, say +5 C morning Saturday. The trio climbed the route from the parking lot to the top of the Crunch ending at the 280 metre sign at the top of the trail; enjoyed the views from the top before returning to the Runnel Drive parking lot. Flora and Larry reprised the 437 steps portion of the route; total time for the three, about 2 hours, including 6 minutes for Flora and Larry for their repeat of the 437 steps. The trio then debriefed at Timmie’s at situated between Runnel Drive and the Barnet Highway.
October 11th: On Wednesday Larry, Edie with April, and Bobtoc welcomed Rod, back from camels’ backs and his unsuccessful search for Sam the piano player in Casablanca. The four set out to walk or run the Forest Grove Drive route frontwards, finishing at the Centre. Larry and Rod did some running on Forest Grove Drive on the return part of the route; their time 1:30, and that of Edie and Bobtoc, 1:36. The weather was cool to cold, no rain; seemingly a perfect time for being out.
Coquitlam Cruisers:
Heather ran up to Jennel’s house Thursday morning, then the two of them ran down to Town Centre & around twice, then extended their Run to the Running Room and happen to spot some Fancy New shirts….so we both bought them for Vegas!!! Stay tuned for future Pictures!!! They then made their way to their homes…..Jennel 15.05km and Heather around 19 km…..A good run for both! (today Heather got to feel what Parkway Blvd HILL is really like!!!)
October 14th:
On Saturday, René, Larry, Flora and Laura met at Rocky Point, and enjoyed a cloudy and chilly morning. René and Larry ran (with a couple of walk breaks) the trails, then Alderside to April Road, then along Ioco Road to the “pearly gates” at the Ioco refinery, and returned, distance 12.2 km, time 1hr:17. Flora and Laura did a bit of running, but mostly walked the same route to Alderside and April Road and returned, their distance about 10 km, time 1hr:35. The four met at the ice cream shop for coffee and/or ice cream.
On Sunday morning, Rod, Edie, Rachel and Larry walked the Equitas 5 km walk for Canadian military veterans at Central Park in Burnaby, and were joined by Christina and John at the end, and listened to the speeches given in support of legal efforts to reinstate full pensions and medical support for our military veterans, some of which have been effectively abandoned by our federal government. It was an interesting event, with Jon McComb of radio CKNW as the emcee, and O Canada and Danny Boy sung by Mark Donnelly (who among other things sings the national anthem on Saturday night Canucks’ games). A very worthy cause for which the sun came out.
Coquitlam Cruisers: On Friday Heather & Jennel met at Pinetree & David….ran 2 laps of Town Centre then proceeded home. Heather 10 km, Jennel 12 km.
October 18th: “Deluge from the heavens”…well, it ended around 6:30 pm at Cameron Centre last night, and the result was no rain and a mild, great evening for a run…I’m not kidding you!…for the one Cruiser, Larry, who did show up and ran (!) the route along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, Broadway, Arden to Super Valu and return (we haven’t done that route in awhile eh?), 9.5 km in a time of 1h:08. I felt like I was with the dreaded Tuesday-Thursday group…not surprising that I was the only runner out there…nobody else, even non-Cruisers, was out there. To that I say, stiffen yer backbones lads and lasses, and don’t give up too soon on the weather, otherwise you’ll never get out this winter!!! Enjoy the deluge from the heavens tonight.
Heather & Jennel met up on a WET Wednesday morning! We ran down Shaughnessy, past the Costco to Walmart, then turned around and went back…..We ran 16.02km total in the POURING RAIN!!! But did have a couple “superman” capes on to not get totally soaked! We were definitely seen on the road….a blue cape & a red cape! If you didn’t see us….”you should not be driving!!!” We were Very visible!!!=
October 21st: On Saturday on a rainy morning, Flora, Larry, Rod, Susan and Bobtoc appeared to run, walk, or strategize at Tim Horton’s emporium on North Road for a strategy meeting. In fact all three missions were accomplished. Flora and Larry ran from the Centre to Underhill Ave via Eastlake before returning to the Centre; time 40 minutes, distance say 5 km; while Rod, Susan and Bobtoc walked to the stoplight at Beaverbrook and Eastlake befpre returning, then walked east to Tim Horton’s in prep for the strategy meeting; time no sure, forgot to start the stop watch; maybe 30 minutes. Deliberations over coffee, lard balls or a donut or so ensued with no decisions made.
October 23rd: Flora, Rod and Bobtoc met Monday evening at the Centre to walk the Forest Grove Drive route backwards. The trio enjoyed a mild no-precip evening. Distance 6.8 k, time about 1.50.
Coquitlam Cruisers:
On Tuesday morning Heather ran 10km run around Town Centre Park. Jennel did a 5km walk down Parkway Blvd, up Johnson, down Panorama (giving hamstrings a rest). Beautiful sunny/cold day!!!
October 25th: On Wednesday night, Rod, Eoin, Larry, Mary and Flora enjoyed a nice evening – no rain and not too cold. Rod and Eoin walked to Underhill and back along Eastlake and Beaverbrook, their distance about 4.5 km and time about 1h10. Mary and Flora walked and ran, while Larry mostly ran and did bobturns to stay with the other two, all going along Beaverbrook and Eastlake, up (and down) the Underhill hill with repeats, Mary and Flora 3X, Larry 4X, and returned along the same route, their distance about 6.5 km, time 1hr25 or so. Bobtoc and his bride took in the Whitecaps’ 5-0 elimination playoff win against San Jose, while Edie watched the World Series, now tied at 1-1 between LA Dodgers and Houston Astros. Now you’re up to date about the world of sports…
RA Edie with April, Susan, Flora, Larry, Len,with granddog Jax, a nice surprise Barry Jones, Rod and Bobtoc met at Rocky Point on a bright beautiful morning; a day when the autumn colours were vivid in both trees, sky and the ocean. The eight commenced the usual route crossing over to the north shore and then west on Alderside. Larry and Len ran to the pearly gates (Esso) and return to Rocky Point, distance 12 k, time about 1:40. Rod and Barry ran 8:15, time 1:30 or so. Edie, Susan and Flora set off on a walk together but did not get to April Road before turning back. Flora then intercepted walker Bobtoc on her way back to Rocky Point and turned west again with him to April Road before returning to the Rocky Point area; their time 2:03, distance circa 10 km. Len spotted a salmon returning to spawn in the water midway between the north and south shores. Would you believe? Most Cruisers gathered at the ice cream parlour for the usual debriefing there. Rene’ also showed up for debrief time at the ice cream place.
On Wednesday morning Jennel walked 5 km again on the same route as the previous day. On Thursday Heather ran 10 km around Town Centre Park. 14 days till Vegas! Getting excited!
On Saturday Heather ran 10km at Town Centre around the Park. Jennel, went and soaked her hamstrings in the hot tub!!! All is better now!!!! Feeling great! Ready for Vegas!
On Monday night, Rod, Eoin and Laura walked from Cameron Centre to the old Sears/now movie studio along Eastlake at Underhill, and back. Distance about 5 km. Time about 1 hr.
Bob the old chap came out but went home.
Thanks to Rod for the report!
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!
From Jennel and Coquitlam Cruisers: Monday indeed was a great run for Heather & Jennel….Jennel ran to Heathers, then they proceeded to Walmart, grabbed some items, did a lap of Town Centre, then ran up to Parkway Blvd for a Starbucks coffee…..walked by the Wine Store and opened the door and the nice lady offered us a taste tester of a Pino Noir wine! It was delicious! Perfect little wee sip to end the run! Then both ladies ran to their homes! 12km for each!
