Wednesday evening saw Rod, Larry, Laura and Flora walk and jog from Cameron Centre along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, Underhill, Forest Grove etc. It was mild but still cloudy. Our time was 1 hour 12 minutes, distance about 7.5 km. (Edie, Bobtoc and Eoin joined the Tues-Thurs group but as usual no report from those people… : )
Race result: MEC Half Marathon Fort Langley April 30: Christina Saremba 2:33:52 Good to see some Cruisers are running!

The group was joined at the finish by Eoin, who arrived later and walked around the park. Coffee or ice cream was enjoyed by all aprés-run at the great ice cream shop by the pool. The weather was actually nice – a hint of sun in the clouds and no rain except for a few sprinkles.
On Sunday, the BMO RunVan Marathon and Half Marathon had an absolutely gorgeous sunny day for the participants. Results for Cruiser people in the half marathon:

May 8th: On Monday, on a sunny warm evening, Alex, Rod, Flora and Bobtoc decided to walk, using a route different to the usual ones the Cruisers use. The route was Cameron St to Noel Drive continuing east to Still Creek Avenue, rounded the Larkin Court circle back to Still Creek Avenue, then to North Road, north to Rathburn Drive, located the path west down to the Still Creek trail, then returned to the Centre. Time and distance 1:08 and 4 km. The foursome enjoyed viewing the gardens and flowering trees along Rathburn Drive in particular and the walk in general.
May 10th: On Wednesday, on yet another sunny warm evening, RA Edie and April, back from her volunteering for the BC Provincial election, Larry and Bob walked from the Centre using the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return; time and distance, about an hour; well actually 59 minutes and 6 seconds, and maybe 4 km. Topic of discussion, THE ELECTION.
Saturday May 13th:
Alex, RA Edie with April, Flora, Ivan, Larry, Len with grand dog Jax, Susan and Bobtoc met Saturday on an overcast with some rain a.m. The route taken was the FGD route backwards but starting on the Stoney Creek trail for the purpose of checking out the preparations on the Stoney Creek school grounds for the annual Great Salmon Send Off. Canvas canopies were already set up, volunteers including Pat Hargreaves were onsite, with Rod on his way from home with bird house kits, prepared over the winter with neighbour Brian. The runners/walkers then continued their outing by crossing the on the Gaglardi overpass to Forest Grove Drive, continuing on the long hill going west to Underhill, down to Eastlake, back to the Centre with some of the runners/walkers then returning to the school grounds, just in time for the official opening. Displays were open; activity at the bird houses stand was apparent, with children, supervised by Rod and Brian plus parents, busily assembling the bird houses. We commented to Rod and Brian that they had taken out neither building nor development permits; however the Cruisers did not make a fuss regarding those infractions to the City. Rain had ceased earlier, permitting reason weather for this annual event. On his walk back to Cameron Centre, Bobtoc saw children being organized for their task of transferring salmon into the creek, observed coming into place the DFO truck and trailer bringing said small salmon to the send-off platforms. Kudos big-time to the volunteers for this valuable endeavour! Time and distance for the runners/walkers back to the Centre, approximately between 1:20 and 1:30, and maybe 8 clicks respectively.

Coquitlam Cruisers:
Heather & Jennel met at Pinetree & David Wednesday morning. From.from there, the two of them ran up Pinetree & back down 8 times….they got a LOT of hills in. Then Heather ran back with Jennel up David, to Johnson, then back home, that total was close to 11km. Later, that evening Jennel was at her “second home” Town Centre watching her daughter in Field Hockey. It was cold, so Jennel walked around the field gaining another 2 km…NB:..Jennel’s eldest daughter, Anamaria has a soccer tournament EVERY day this long weekend in South Surrey, this is why all her runs are back to back…..no time to run on the weekend!
Anamaria is following in her Mom’s footsteps, having run Wednesday am in training for her school sports day 400 m twice, first time 1:44 and the second, 1:21! This kid is GOOD!
Jennel ran 5.85 km Thursday morning: ran Anamaria to track, then back to home to pick up Sofia, walked back to school, ran down to Starbucks, then back up Parkway Blvd, dropped off a coffee for teacher appreciation week, then ran back home. Done by 9:15 am. Total distance for the week 37.29 km, not sure of Heather’s total.
May 20th: Senators Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Saturday on a gorgeous no rain, sunny,+15C morning and chose to walk the familiar FGD route frontwards. The pair in their travels talked to two male residents of a co-op complex opposite the Forest Grove Elementary School, discussed rhododendron and hydrangea bushesC with them, continued the usual route back to the Centre, exchanged descriptions of aches and pains in our legs, and finished their 7 km or so walk in 1:35, basking in the sun throughout the route.

Gillian Coates, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Monday on a salubrious morning sharpish at 8:00 and chose as the destination for walking, Joe’s Trail. The scenery on the route was spectacular; the blue sky, fresh greenery on trees and bushes, warm temperature, great company on the route. We spotted a fisherman on the banks of the Brunette River enjoying the peace of the morning; we didn’t spoil his solitude. Time and distance, 1:36, distance about 7 km.
May 24th: On Wednesday night, Bobtoc, Rod, Edie and April, Alex, Larry and Libby walked Joe’s Trail, enjoying the sunny weather and noting the decreased water level of the Brunette River as the spring thaw seems to be over. It was great to see Libby again. Rod’s and Libby’s time was 1h 40m while the rest of the group’s time was about 1h 50m. Distance by all 7.5km or thereabouts.
From Jennel: On Wednesday Jennel did 10.25 km. She jogged & walked back & forth to the school 6 times making that 4.25 km, then later in the evening ran 6 km at Town Centre Track. Heather rested, but is right on track with the kilometres according to our Running Room Schedule. On Thursday Jennel & Heather met along David…ran UP David, then UP Johnson, then UP Parkway Blvd, then UP Panorama, then down Sandstone & back UP, then back down with repeats….then ran back down to Heather’s home, Jennel ran her partly home and headed back up. So the two of them definitely got in 9X hill work today….Heather’s distance 10 km, Jennel’s…15 km. It was a HOT one this morning!!!
May 27th: On Saturday morning, Rod, Larry, Alex, Flora and her friend Mary, Edie and her canine friend April, Sherian and Libby enjoyed the beautiful summer weather at Rocky Point. Rod, Larry, Alex, Flora and Libby rogged to the gates at Ioco Refinery using the trails alongside the inlet, then along Alderside to April Road, and Ioco Road to the gates, and returned the same way, distance 12 km, time 1h 55m, for Rod 1h 45m, and for Flora 2 h. The rest of the group mostly walked to Alderside and April Road, with Sherian doing some rogging as well, and returned to the Rocky Point ice cream store, distance 9 km, time 1h 40m or so, and waited for the others to return. The group then did its duty to help the ice cream store celebrate its 20th year in business by enjoying various flavours of ice cream. Doesn’t get any better than that!!
On Monday, Jennel ran down to the mall in the heat, then grabbed a Starbucks Iced Tea and ran back up finding her way to the Coquitlam Crunch and proceeded up walking and jogging! With a jog, that increased the wind! Yes it was hot, but no need to worry, looks like we’re back to cooler temperatures and a bit o’ rain soon…
May 29th: On Monday evening Alex, Edie with canine April, Eoin, Flora, Laura and Bobtoc met at the Centre and, taking into account the heat of the day and evening, took the suggestion of Flora to walk the Stoney Creek trail to North Road and return. Time and distance, 1:00 on the dot and the usual 5 or so km.
From Coquitlam:
Jennel ran down to the mall IN THE HEAT Monday, then grabbed a Starbucks Iced Tea and ran back up finding her way to the Coquitlam Crunch and proceeded up walking and jogging! With a jog, that increased the wind ! Distance, 9.78 km.
May 31st: On Wednesday on a warm but damp evening, only Larry and Bobtoc showed up and chose the Stoney Creek trail once again for their outing. The duo opted to walk due to the precip, which ceased after a while. Time and distance, 59 minutes and the usual 5 or so km.
From Coquitlam:
Tuesday morning Heather and Jennel ran from Heather’s home to David and Shaughnessy, down David, left on Pinetree and stopped at JYSK to check out some curtains, from there ran across Lougheed Hwy to Superstore.
