Happy New Year, Cruisers!
Deer Lake Walk – Len & Miriam

Polar Bear Swim

Miriam participated in her 19th annual Polar Bear Swim at English Bay.  Good on you!

Wednesday January 7th:  Lots and lots of snow everywhere, inhibiting running and even walking but not snowshoeing. Len Miriam and Debra snowshoeing on Seymour.

Birds were happy to share their lunch.

Saturday, January 7th

On Saturday morning, some Cruisers were out trying running or walking, and/or having coffee.  Susan, Edie, Flora, Larry and René met at Cameron Centre and walked to Tim’s at North Road where they met Bobtoc and Rod.  After some had some java, the three women set out for the Skytrain to go to False Creek where they did quite a walk tour around and had lunch downtown, distance exceeding 13 km, while Larry and René found that taking Cottonwood (mostly) to Como Lake was suitable for running.  At Como Lake the pair walked across the frozen lake, where others were skating and playing hockey, and the two then ran five laps around the trail, which was hard packed snow and easy to run on.  They returned the same way, distance about 12 km, time about 75 minutes, and went to Tim’s to get a warm beverage, and what do you know, Rod was still there, discussing soccer with Eoin!
From Jennel:   Well, I’ve got to get cracking on this running….or I’ll never be prepared for the BMO, and step aerobics in my living room is not going to cut it!  So, Tony suggested I walk/run around Lafarge Lake while he brings the girls swimming.  So, I do this!  I actually walked across Lafarge Lake itself!  It was frozen solid.  I sent a picture to Edie & Larry.  Many people were on it, ice fishing, playing hockey, ice skating!  It was a fun experience.  I walked across once, then that was it….I ran 2 laps around the paved perimeter which was clear as a bell!  Approx 5 km. …was nice…but FREEZING on the ice!  Whew!!!

Wednesday January 11th: Wednesday night doesn’t look good weather or ground conditions-wise (forecast  -7 C or colder), so not advisable to risk slipping on the ice.  The good news is that the long-term forecast is for warming next week so hopefully y’all can get out and walk or run again while the Kihei Cruisers do their hard work!

Wednesday January 25th:  Alex, Rod, Laura, Edie and April – Cold Weather Cruisers did the Forest Grove Loop in about 1:40.  We were bundled up and had rosy cheeks when we returned to Cameron Centre.
Saturday January 28th: RA Edie together with canine April, Eoin and Laura, Flora, Ivan, Larry, Rachel, Susan and Bobtoc met Saturday  on a no rain, no snow, no sand (Kihei runners take notice) morning.  The route chosen for the run/walk was to   the IGA corner and back via Greystone Drive.  Flora and Bobtoc were the leaders at the outset, with Eoin and Bobtoc  the tail gunners at the end of the run/walk.  Susan opted to run home from the Greystone-Burnwood  intersection.  Time for Eoin and Bobtoc, 2:06, lesser times for the other six, and  distance for the others except for Susan, 9.5 km.

RA Edie together with canine April, Rod and Bobtoc walked the familiar Forest Grove Drive route and back to the Centre Monday on a no rain, moderate temperature evening.  Time and distance, 1:40,  6.7 km.
