November 2nd:  Seven Cruisers met Monday on a dry but cool to cold evening.  Alex, Flora, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc chose to walk/jog/run the oh so familiar Forest Grove Drive route, moving west on Eastlake to Underhill to Forest Grove Drive and you know the remainder of the route back to the Centre.  Time and distance, 1:12 and 7 km respectively.  RA Edie with canine April and Eoin chose to walk, their route being to Underhill & Eastlake and back.   Eoin managed the walk fine but it was far enough for him.   April, still suffering from post Hallowe’en fireworks traumatic stress (PHFTS) pulled me directly to the car when we got back to Cameron so we came straight home.  Time and distance, one hour ten minutes and 4.83k respectively.

November 4th:From Coquitlam:

Heather & Jennel ran Tuesday morning “our usual  route”…from our homes, around Town Centre twice, then back…approx. 12km give or take.  Good run, nice weather, great company!!!
From Cameron Centre:
Alex, Larry, Libby, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Wednesday evening under dry skies and a cool temperature,  ideal for the combination of walk, jog and running.  The group used the familiar Forest Grove Drive route again, with Larry and Libby running Underhill 2x before completing the usual FG Drive route.  Alex, Rod and Bobtoc started out on a walk to be with Rod, but the walk increased to a run, easy however, to make sure Rod did not re-injure himself.  Not that it mattered to Bobtoc, whose race pace is slower than Rod’s walk.  Oh well.  The five enjoyed the weather and completed the route over the Gaglardi overpass to the Beaverbrooks back to the Centre.  Distance approx. 7 km, a bit more for Larry and Libby, and time for all, 1:11.

November 7th:  Four Cruisers:   RA Edie, Alex, Rod and Bobtoc showed up at the Centre Saturday on a soggy, wet, rainy morning sharp at 8:00 am.  A decision was made quickly with no opposition to forgo a run and substitute a ride, yes, a ride, in cars, to Tim Horton’s.  The four therefore acted quickly on the decision and, at Timmie’s, discussed a number of worldly items.  Not that anyone will take action thereon.
Good luck to Edie, Laurie, Alex, Laura and Larry on their 10k race tomorrow at Ceperley Park.

November 8th:Results from the Great Climate Race 10k Sunday, report by RA Edie:
Congratulations to the following:
“Laura                          1:02:49
Alex                            1:02:19
Laurie                         1:09:54
Edie                            1:22:18
Athletic supporter: Eoin-walked to Denman and had a coffee before seeing us off.
Laurie and I got to Stanley Park before 9, met Laura and Eoin at the bib pick up and then Alex came within a couple of minutes after skytrainining and bussing to the event.  The four runners waited in the car until about 9:30 before heading over to the start line.  The day could have gone either way with a few spits of rain, but luckily, it stayed dry and cool for our run around the best scenery in the world.
After the run we hung around the finish line for a while, then Laura and Eoin left.  Alex, Laurie and I had coffee and cookies by the car before heading off to drop Alex at the Main Street station.  Half the coffee spilt in the back of my car but there was enough left for three of us and it was still fairly hot.
Another event that seemed hard to do but we were glad we had done it.”

On Monday, six runners/walkers/joggers plus canine showed up on a cold but dry evening, which turned out perfect for the activity.  Edie, Laura and Eion opted to walk the beginning of the Forest Grove Drive route, using Eastlake to Underhill to Broadway and return; their time and distance, 1:16, 5.84 km respectively.  Alex, Rod and Bobtoc used a combo of walk, jog and run, did the full Forest Grove Drive route and returned to the Centre using the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, noting a burnt out light on the path leading to the overpass, must let the City of Burnaby know; their time and distance, 1:22 and a bit less than 7 km.
November 14th:
Cheryl Davies, new to the group,  was greeted by Larry, Laura, Eoin, Len, Rene’, Rod, Alex and Bobtoc on a cool but no precip morning Saturday at the Centre.  After introductions, the route chosen was Joe’s Trail.  Bobtoc and Rod chose to walk with Eoin who in fact jogged along the route.  Great discussion was carried on by them regarding the previous evening’s match between Canada and Honduras at BC Place.  Rod then joined the others who were moving at a brisker pace.  That group ran or jogged to North Road and beyond to Hume Park, up  Larry’s hill to the sports fields before turning back.  Eoin and Bobtoc were joined by Rod who did not go to Hume Park.  Laura and Alex then left the others and ran back with Rod and Bobtoc, Eoin having turned back earlier.  All returned to the Centre, Cheryl first, having cut her run short due to having to report to work.  Rene’ extended his run when he returned to the Centre by using the Stoney Creek trail to North Road.  His total distance was 13 k; that of those who ran into Hume Park, more like 9 k; that of those who turned back at North Road, about 7 k, and for Eoin, who jogged very well, about 5 k. Times for those to Hume Park, about 1:15,  for Bobtoc, 1:23, and for Rene’ about 1:24.  Temperature, perfect for the morning.
From Coquitlam:
Heather & Jennel ran Monday around noon.  Late, you say….but we’re running around schedules!  Heather & James are getting ready for their Missions Trip to Israel!  How exciting.  They leave this Saturday.  We were thinking of running today, but as you said, take this day to remember.
From San Diego:
Edie reported Friday:
I wish I had a job then I could request a leave of

absence and stay here.  This is the jewel in the crown of Southern California.🌴🌴🍺☀😎 Coronado has wide streets with palm trees, blue sky, ocean breezes, lots of shops and restaurants – it’s wonderful.   Flora and Ross are coming from San Diego to Coronado tomorrow.   We’re picking up our bibs before the run because it’s too far to go to the store and we don’t have transportation.   My brother in law has the flu so we are sad about that.😢 Otherwise,  all is good.  Wish you were here.  The run is on a strand in the ocean – beautiful.
The Coronado  Cruiser

Hello Bob,
Its lovely here with in what locals call their ‘winter.’Crisp morning at 13c, mildly hot afternoon at 23c with windy evenings requiring a light jacket. The Dana resort is wonderful. Highly recommended for Cruisers.  Flora and Ross
From San Diego, day off their half marathon:   Flora and I rose just after 4 am, took a taxi to the start line at 5:45 to begin our day.  We went early because we hadn’t picked up our bibs and didn’t know what to expect but could have gone an hour later.  We walked around the neighbourhood looking at some magnificent houses and also walked to the beach before checking our gear.  After making the brave decision to check our jackets despite the chill in the air, we headed to the start line.   When they asked where people were from, we yelled out Vancouver.  The lady next to us laughed and said you could always tell Canadians because they dressed like it was summer.  The natives wore warmer clothing.  We were glad we didn’t have our jackets though.
The day was overcast, cooler and breezy – perfect for running.  The route was mostly flat and the scenery mostly beautiful.  We did 5/1s at a nice pace for us until mile 7.5 when I got a nose bleed.  I was checked by a route Marshall who was a veterinarian.  He said his regular patients didn’t get nose bleeds.  Anyway, we walked for 2 miles and ran in the last 1/2 mile.  The end of the run was through residential streets and ended at Imperial Beach – absolutely amazing with huge waves and a long pier.  Our time was 2:30, including the time I spent trying to stop my nosebleed and walking because of it so we were happy with that.  We may have come last but results haven’t been posted yet.
😊 sigh!  We stayed together the whole time.   I found the run easier than last

week’s Climate Race for some reason.  We took the shuttle back to town and walked the 1.5 miles to our hotel.   You wonder why you do these things and then are glad you did.  Flora and Ross walked back downtown, adding another 5 miles and I went for a shorter walk in the afternoon, too.  Tomorrow Flora and Ross are going home 😥 and we’re going to Mission Bay until Wednesday.  You’ll see us in our new shirts on Saturday.  The medal is a bottle opener.

November 16th:  CRUISERS STAYED AWAY IN DROVES MONDAY!  Cruisers were non-existent Monday save for the three twitlets,  Larry, Rod and Bobtoc, who all wore long pants, definitely not dressed for a run.  The weather conditions were brutal; cold, very wet with hard rain, slow, slow traffic, not at all suitable for running.  The three stayed in the lounge area where Bobtoc was provided by Rod and Pat with some thoughtful gifts to commemorate his birthday.  My heartfelt thanks for the gifts, among them being  lardballs from Timmie’s which were a hit with the trio.  Congratulations to the Cruisers for having the common sense not to run Monday!

November 21st: Cheryl, Larry, Laura,Libby, Rod and Bobtoc on Wednesday met at and moved out from the Centre to use the Forest Grove Drive backwards route.  The five enjoyed a dry but cold evening, no wind, quite suitable for the outing.  The six set out together then formed two groups; Larry, Laura, Libby and Cheryl,  who ran a faster pace than Rod and Bobtoc.  The first group, in doing the FGD backward route, added to their run an extra run up and down of the hill leading from the Gaglardi overpass to the crest near the school, plus an extra lap of the Underhill elevation; their time and distance approx.  1:25 and 9 km respectively.  Rod and Bob, using a slower pace, did the route with no repeats; their time and distance 1:15 and a bit less than 7 km respectively.
In Coquitlam:    Wednesday WALK in Coquitlam.  Jennel’s running buddy Heather and husband James are  off to Israel, but Jennel  found a new walking buddy, husband  Tony.  After a LONG recovery from his ruptured Achilles Tendon (back in May), they went on their first “LONG” walk today.  Down Parkway Blvd & back up.  Close to 5km.  A good strengthening walk for him and good rehab for his leg. A good cross-training workout for Jennel too!

November 21st:  Cold weather brought out the best in us Saturday morning at the Centre.  Ten showed up under clear skies despite a   -3C temperature, which warmed up to +2C by the end of the run. Alex, Cheryl, Edie with canine April, Flora, Larry, Laura, Len, Rene’, Rod, Alex and Bobtoc set out for Joe’s Trail, where traction should not be a problem.  The group were careful going down the Cameron Street hill and continued along Government Street to Cariboo and you know the rest.  Cheryl was first to return from the gate at North Road due to her work commitments, in great time.  Flora, Rod and Bobtoc stayed together to

the North Road gate and return, their time 1:20; RA Edie walked with Laura and canine April and returned with some of the others; the remainder went into Hume Park up Larry’s hill, the playfields and beyond; in the case of Rene’ and Larry, to Baird Street, King Edward before returning, their distance being about 15 km, time about 1:50, and Len and Alex, about 13.5 km, time about 1:45.  Len cycled to the Centre at the outset and of course cycled home again, Kincaid and Royal Oak vicinity.  Talk about fitness!  Well done, Len.

November 23rd: Alex, Cheryl, RA Edie, Eoin, Flora, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc  showed up Monday on a dark, drizzly evening at the Centre.   Eoin and Bobtoc elected to walk, their destination being Broadway and Underhill before returning to the Centre; their time and distance being 1:20 and 5.8 km, in which time they solved a few of the world’s problems, in the knowledge however than nobody important listened.   The remaining six ran/walked the FGD route, starting west, up Underhill, east to FG Drive and you know the rest of the route back to the Centre; their distance about 7 km, time about 1:10.  In the meantime the drizzle almost abated, making for reasonable conditions for the outing.

November 25th:  Cheryl, RA Edie, Eoin, Flora, Laura, Libby, Rod and Bobtoc  turned out Wednesday on a clear and cold, bright moonlit evening.   The group chose the usual winter FGD route.  Eoin and Flora walked/jogged to Broadway and Underhill before their return; the remainder ran/jogged the full route with most doing some bobturns to achieve longer runs while  Rod, Edie and Bobtoc chose to do the route without.  The group enjoyed the conditions: invigorating cold, dry, good visibility.  Distances and times varied.  All enjoyed the time including the customary hanging out upon return over the fence west of the Centre.

Heron looking at us on Joe’s Trail                          November 28th: On Saturday, eight runners, Cheryl, RA Edie, Flora, Larry, René, Rod and Bobtoc, met at the Centre on a bright, clear and cold -5 C temperature morning.  The route selected was Joe’s Trail via Cameron St. hill west to the footbridge to Government to Cariboo, onto Joe’s Trail.  All went to the gate at North Road, with Alex, Larry and René continuing to Hume Park, on their return the trio continued west onto the Burnaby Lake trail as far as the nature house at Piper Ave. before returning to Cameron Centre, their distance being 14 km, time 1h 47.  Cheryl was the first back to the Centre due to work commitments.  Courageous Alex, Larry and Rod wore shorts of course despite the temperature which warmed up to a balmy +1 C.  Time for Flora and Bobtoc, 1h 24, distance about 9 km.  RA Edie and Rod also did about 9 km with a faster time.  The scenery on the run was spectacular –  blue skies, some hoary frost on surfaces and fences; a heron on Brunette River’s bank on display.  Doesn’t get any better than this!
November 30th:  On Monday night, three Cruisers, Cheryl, Bobtoc and Rod did the usual Forest grove backwards loop on a warmer night than of late and dry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Time out about 1h29, distance 7 km.

Thanks to our staff reporter Rod for providing the update.
