On Saturday at Burnaby Lake parking lot , R A Edie,Flora, Larry, Laura, Rick, Rod, Susan and Bobtoc turned up at the mist-covered fields for a short run/walk west using the Central Valley Parkway and Still Creek Road and return, times out and distance varying.   Upon their return under clear skies, the eight were able to view a number of Jaguar and MG sports cars plus a couple of Jaguar sedans, all gorgeous cars, their drivers preparing to convoy out to Chilliwack.

Run for the Cure

On Sunday, R A Edie, Larry, Laura, Eoin, Rick, Rachel, Rod, Susan, Bobtoc skytrained to BC Place where they met Debra to run/walk the Run for the Cure 5 km run, although it seems we in fact did about 4 km since we, and most of the runners, missed a turn for a one or so km loop, pressing on to Quebec Street without running the said loop, since no volunteers were on hand to direct the runners/walkers.

Alex Lau volunteered for the Ride for Refugee cycle run, which was a fund-raiser for the Journey Home Community, a charity supported by Len and Miriam Soet’s  group.   Their team raised some $3,200 for the charity.
The Cruisers who ran/walked for the Run for the Cure, plus Alex and Angela Lau and Rick’s son Jason,  and Tim and Marie, lunched at the Burnaby Lake Gold Course pub in the early afternoon, it being a great cap to the day downtown.
Not to be outdone  Heather & Jennel from the Coquitlam contingent ran the  Blueshore CU Spirit of the Shore half marathon in West Vancouver….Beautiful run….from Park Royal in W, Van up Keith Rd. big hill down to North Vancouver, back around the shoreline to Ambleside and back to Park Royal.
Heather….2:06:48
Jennel…. .2:02:44
Great times!

October 5th:  Hi Bob,
On Monday Norman, Terri-Lee, and Shiraz ran the Forest Grove Loop.  April and Edie walked 3k to Production and back.
Another beautiful evening.

October 7th:  On Wednesday night, Larry, Alex, Edie and Laura – the Fearsome Foursome – ventured out on a dark, rainy night on the edge of town starting from the Centre along Beaverbrook, Eastlake, up the effin’ Underhill, along Forest Grove and ya know the rest of the route, 6.8 km in 1h 02.   Of course we were thrilled to be running in the rain again just like old times!  Rod stopped by to say hello, was feeling a little under the weather so went home and watched the Whitecaps on TV no doubt.  Bobtoc was at the Whitecaps game so he missed the thrill of running in the rain too.

Saturday October 10th:  A number of Cruisers turned out Saturday am at the Centre at the time of the best weather features of the day; not cold, no precip, bright but overcast, skies.  All  opted to go west, with Larry and Norman Law running as far as the Kensington Rink; time 1:58, 16 km.  Rod and Bob chose the familiar Forest Grove route, utilizing Eastlake to Forest Grove Drive, then east over the pedestrian overpass to the Beaverbrooks then back to the Centre; distance 7.4 km time 1:26.  Len and RA Edie ran  to the SuperValu corner from which Len returned to the Centre; his distance and time 9.4 km and 1:20, while Edie  continued 2 more k before turning around and retracing her steps to Broadway and Underhill,  walked up the hill then continued through Forest Grove back to Cameron.  14.25k in 2:05.  Extremely humid.😰   Before his run,  Len cycled to the Centre from his home on Kincaid and Royal Oak to the Centre, then returned home after  via his bike.   A morning’s workout to be sure.

Flora arrived on the scene at the Centre, having run from her home which is across the street from Mundy Park, talked to the Cruisers who were stretching their bods.after their run/walks.   Barry Jones greeted the Cruisers, having come out from the Centre; it was a reunion of present and past.  Flora then departed to run back to her home.  Her distance will  have been in total 12+ km.

Saw Valerie on her way into a spinning class!  Damien was at soccer with dad Rich; Eloise in a play school.  Time marches on.

Monday October 13th:  Autumn has arrived. R A Edie with canine April, Alex, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc turned out Monday morning at Rocky Point under a cold, penetrating rain, with few other souls in the park.  The five set out with Alex and Larry opting to run to the April Road intersection on Alderside and returning; and Rod and Bobtoc  to walk to the Old Orchard Beach before returning; time all approximately 1126.  The five chose to use the blacktop pavement instead of the far more rustic trail.   The customary ending at the pier end was dispensed with due to the cold rain which showed no letup.

October 14th:  RA Edie, Larry, Laura, Libby, Rod and Bobtoc gathered at the Centre Wednesday on a cool to cold evening.  The six ran, jogged or walked the usual fall-winter Forest Grove route: west on Eastlake, north on Underhill, east on Forest Grove Drive to the pedestrian overpass, passing the Stoney Creek Elementary School, and the Beaverbrooks back to the Centre.  Edie, Larry, Laura and Libby ran the route and waited at Noel and Beaverbrook for walkers/joggers Rod and Bobtoc to run to the Centre together.  Time and distance, 1:16, 7:4 km respectively.  The six warmed up quickly and enjoyed perfect autumn weather to be moving.  Rod salivated over the quantum of leaves ready and waiting to be scooped up for gardening purposes.  Bins are full, however.

October 17th:  From Coquitlam: Heather & Jennel met Thursday at the corner of David & Pinetree, then ran 2 full laps around Town Centre Park and each headed home.  Beautiful Day:  the sun was shinning, the birds were chirping and as you say Bob, “it just doesn’t get any better than this!”
Planning our run schedule for our Vancouver, FULL marathon May 1st!  We’ll casually run for the next few month, then come January….we’re “cracking down” and training Full Force!  (between our kids, husbands, homes, cooking, cleaning etc.) lol
Four Cruisers on Saturday am:  RA Edie, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre in the best weather portion of the day.  The four paired off: Edie and Laura to run, and Rod and Bobtoc to walk and jog gently.  The destinations were, for Edie and Laura, Eastlake to Underhill, west on Broadway to Arden, east on Meadowood, north to Shellmont, east on Shellmont to Underhill, east on Forest Grove Drive and the pedestrian overpass thence back to the Centre; their time and distance, 1:22 and 8.8 km respectively.  For Rod and Bobtoc the destination was similar but they used Underhill to Forest Grove Drive then the usual route east also using the pedestrian overpass and continuing to the Centre; their time and distance, 1:19 and 7 km.

October 24th:  Kudos to Edie and Alex, who volunteered at the Race Expo Friday and Saturday respectively for the Rock n Roll Oasis Half, putting a lot back into the sport!

On a cool but perfect morning for run, jog, walking, RA Edie Larry, Laura, Rene’, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Burnaby Lake parking lot to utilize the Central Valley Greenway route.  All moved west, with Rod and Bobtoc walking, and Bobtoc jogging somewhat to Gilmore Avenue at which point Rod turned back; his distance and time being 10 km and 1:40 respectively.  Bobtoc continued his run/jog to Renfrew Street before returning; his time 2:49 to the Rugby Clubhouse biffy.  Rene, Larry, Laura and Edie together ran west, with Rene and Larry turning back at Renfrew Street before returning; their times 1:58.  Edie and Laura ran  further west almost to Commercial Drive before returning; their times 2:19.

Monday activities:
In Burnaby:
Eoin, RA Edie with April, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc met at the Centre Monday on a cool no precip evening.  The five walked west to use the oh so familiar Forest Grove fall-winter route.  Edie with April bowed out early since April was spooked by fireworks.  The four continued west.  Eoin bowed out at Broadway and Underhill doe to pain in a leg.  The remaining trio continued up  Underhill to Forest Grove as a brisk walk pace, continuing to the crest of the hill moving east at which point the trio commenced a jog which they maintained until they returned to the Centre.  The five were pleasantly surprised to encounter Rachel Fouladi on Eastlake on the west leg of their walk/run. Rachel was running laps on Eastlake. We spent about 10 minutes catching up on events.  Time and distance for the trio,  1:14 not counting the catch-up time with Rachel, distance almost 7 km.
In Coquitam:
Heather & Jennel met at the corner of David & Pinetree, then proceeded to run around Town Centre Park twice, then back to our homes.  Total run…13km

October 28th:  On Wednesday RA Edie.  Flora, Eoin, Laura, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc  met at the Centre in the evening at a time when no rain was falling, but rain did begin in the midst of the run, walk or jog as applicable.  Flora and Eoin walked to the corner of Eastlake and Underhill before returning, their distance 5 km.  Edie, Larry, Laura, Rod and Bobtoc did the Forest Grove Drive route backwards, with the first three running, their time 59 minutes, and Rod and Bobtoc did the same route, with Rod walking and Bobtoc jogging, their time 1:16.

From Coquitlam:
Jennel  did a quick run around my place Thursday late morning.  Heather is under the weather, and I had to stay near home as I have to go back & forth to the elementary school to help out for Halloween activities.  In between the events at school, I ran down Lansdowne Drive to Value Village and “low & behold” I run into Rod!!!  So we had a quick chat and catch-up, then I realized I had to be back up the hill to the school to carve pumpkins with the kids…..so I RAN up the Coquitlam Crunch…and I can still breathe; barely, but I’m alive!  Total run 7.35km
From Burnaby:
FOUR CRUISERS CAUGHT IN THE ACT AT TIM HORTON’S SATURDAY AM BY ALEX LAU AND FLORA JOHNSON!   Larry, Rene’, Rod and Bobtoc  met at Cameron Centre when the rain waa p***ing down and made a hasty decision to forego the planned run and have a strategy meeting instead.  The four culprits were sniffed amid  their coffee cups  by sleuths Alex and Flora.  Adele also identified the foursome at Timmie’s.  Alex and Flora, having caught the foursome AWOL, continue on, but  braved the rain, and  they ran south along North Road. Crossing Lougheed Highway was like crossing a small stream. Almost need a small boat to cross.  Shoes were completely wet. Turned west at the entrance to Joe’s trail . Rain tapered off and then stopped. The trail was in a better condition than North Road. Level on Brunette river was high. Current was strong. Stopped at the junction of Stoney Creek and found no salmon. Current too strong for the salmon to swim upstream. Continued to Burnaby Lake’s Cariboo Dam. Found no live salmon in the waterway which was specially built for them,  but found seven silvery salmon affixed to the outside wall of the waterway. Disappointed by finding no salmon going upstream but glad having stuck to our plan of running the Joe’s trail. Cariboo Road and Government Road were dry and the trail north of government Road was dry too. Total distant 6.7K total time out 76 minutes.
