February 18th: Five Cruisers showed up on Monday evening when initially rain was falling, but it ceased in time for the foray west to do the Forest Grove route i.e. Eastlake, Underhill, north to Forest Grove Drive, east to the pedestrian overpass, down to the Beaverbrooks and back to the Centre. Libby and Terri-Lee attended to do a light tune-up before the Fort Langley Historic Half. They were accompanied by Larry, Edie with canine April and Bobtoc . The five did an easy run/walk series, and covered 6.7 km in time of 75 minutes. The temperature and lack of rain provided ideal conditions for the five.
Our best wishes to Libby, Terri-Lee and Denise… Terri-Lee, you’ll find out at the Fort.
This one said he wouldn’t mind being a Cruiser, but wasn’t sure about the cold. He’s got his trunk wrapped around my waist.
My friend Swabbie’s passport picture in case he decides to come and visit the cruisers. This was taken just before we went for a walk.
February 21st: Seven Cruisers met Saturday on a cool to cold morning including Rod who returned home with Pat from their foray to southeast Asia, sporting tanned legs, arms and face as well as great memories no doubt. The Cruisers commenced their run or walks going west. Terri-Lee and Edie with canine April walked to Underhill on Eastlake and returned since Terri-Lee would be running the Fort Langley Half Sunday; their distance and time approx. 4 km, 50 minutes. Rachel and Bobtoc also walked to Underhill using the same route but walked to Broadway before returning, their distance and time approx.4.5 km, 60 minutes. Runners Ivan, Larry, Laura, Rod and Sherian ran the Forest Grove Drive route using the pedestrian overpass on the return, distance and time 7.6 km, 50 minutes. Alex ran and walked the longest, started with the group to Broadway then continued west on Arden, Greystone to the Westridge Elementary School, then Hastings east to Burnaby Mountain Parkway, the powerline trail on the east, back via the Stoney Creek trail, Beaverbrook to the Centre, distance and time 17.7 k, 2:53 respectively.
Jennel walked 8km to IGA & back Friday. Same incline as the Coquitlam Crunch, just on the road. Heather & her husband are coming over this evening and Heather & I will be finding a race to run in and register for it! Stay tuned for the lucky race we’ll be running!!! NB. See what they found, entered below.
February 23rd: The three twitlets i.e. Larry, Rod and Bobtoc ran from the Centre on a cool but no precip evening, keeping to the tried and true Forest Grove Drive route starting west onto Eastlake to Underhill Avenue, then east to Forest Grove Drive, down the pedestrian overpass, the Beaverbrooks to return to the Centre. Distance and time, 7.6 km , time for Larry and Rod 55 minutes and for Bobtoc 60. RA Edie put in a cameo appearance before returning home.
On Sunday last, See email forwarded concurrent with this update. Great times!
On Tuesday Jennel hiked the Coquitlam crunch today twice over. 7.65km. Correction….the walk to IGA is NOT the same incline as the Crunch! The Coquitlam Crunch is much harder!!!
February 25th: Libby’s bladder sprung a leak at the Fort Langley Half Marathon last Sunday. History repeats somewhat; a few years ago at the Fort Langley Half on a minus 6 C morning her bladder froze(as did water at
the water tables). Libby remains calm, carries on, and is researching for a remedy, be it, perhaps, vulcanizing by Michelin or Goodyear. Thanks to Terri-Lee for advising her fellow Cruisers Wednesday of Libby’s malady.
After absorbing the shock of the bladder leak, Larry, Libby, Rod, Terri-Lee, Alex and Bobtoc on a no precip mild evening Wednesday ran/walked leisurely west using Eastlake, Arden Drive, Greystone to Shellmont, east on Shellmont to Underhill, east on Forest Grove back to the Centre. Alex and Bobtoc ran/walked together, Alex hampered by sore knees, and Bobtoc, well, hampered. Distance for the six, 8.6km, time for the first four 1:24 and time for Alex and Bobtoc, 1:34.
February 28th:
Flora arrives and Larry recharges his batteries.
Eight Cruisers met at and ran or walked from Rocky Point on a zero C degree and bright morning Saturday. Edie with canine April opted for a short walk only; the remaining seven opted to run and formed into a three groups, with Flora, Rod and Sherian running to April Road before returning, with Rod in the vanguard since he had to be home by 10 am; Larry and Rick running to the pearly gates (the Ioco Terminal) gates at a faster rate than Alex and Bobtoc, both combining running, jogging and some walking, also to said pearly gates. Times for the groups no known except for Alex and Bobtoc who did distance in, let us say sub 3, including pit stops and reading of signs along the route. Alex is suffering from wonky knees and Bobtoc, well, adjusting to the new and present reality. Distance to Ioco gates and return, 12 km. Distance to April Road and return, 10 km. Times for the other groups unknown but suffice it to say plenty of time was taken by most to examine and comment on the ongoing construction on Alderside of new houses and renovations of others. No suitable places for use for the Cruisers clubhouse; not enough bedrooms, bathrooms or parking.
Sharp-eyed Alex noted along the route, including the route to the pier after the run, in three different places, red wool knitted sleeves on tree branches or a steel rail, the sleeves sporting eyes, a nose, and two ears each of black wool. Mission for the Cruisers on the next run at Rocky Point: Find the three sleeves, find any more if there are more. Winner gets ice cream from Bobtoc.
From Jennel in Coquitlam:
Doing the Coquitlam Crunch today, Saturday. Anamaria has a soccer tournament (“World Cup”) down at Eagle Ridge Field, so I’ll go, watch a game then hike back up home while Tony brings them to swim lessons after soccer! Busy, active family!!!
