Six  runners ran from the Centre Monday on a cool but moonlit evening, making visibilty much better than what usually is encountered at this time of the season.  Alex, Edie, Laura, Rod, Norman and Bobtoc opted to run/walk the Forest Grove Drive frontward run, i.e., west from the Centre via Cameron St, Eastlake, north on Underhill to Forest Grove Drive, east on the return to the Gaglardi pedestrian overpass, the Beaverbtooks to the Centre.  Time and distance,    1:02, 7 km.   All in all the best night of the year so far.

Four runners celebrated a P.O.I.T.’s T day Wednesday, in mourning and moaning over the incessant cloud, rain and darkness experienced in the past few days.   RA Edie, Larry, Rod and Bobtoc managed 914 meters (return trip) to Tim Horton’s establishment on North Road for coffee, lard ball equivalents, soup, and more moaning.  Return walktime, 20 minutes.

Saturday’s Activity:

Runner Rod Hargreaves ran solo from Cameron Centre commencing at 7:30 am and ran the Forest Grove Drive route using the Eastlake west route, Underhill, Forest Grove Drive, the overpass etc.  Distance 7 km.  In the pm he played field hockey.

Runners  Flora, Laura and Bobtoc met at and ran from the Westwood Mall Saturday on a cold and wet morning using the Traboulay Poco Trail, with a diversion to the Port Coquitlam Cemetery to view the graves and headstones of Terry Fox, his mother Betty Fox also and those of Flora’s parents.  The trio then headed down the hill, continued east onto the Traboulay trail after using residential streets, reached the Rec Centre before heading back. along the Poco Trail to Westwood Mall.   The trees, trails, and level of the Coquitlam River water were all remarkable.  Total time out including pit stop and approximately half an hour diversion  to the cemetery, 2:36, effective time about 2 hours; guestimated distance covered, 13 km.

The Coast to Coast walkers report from RA Edie is:

We completed 27.53k today on the PoCo Trail in 5:33 hours.   It rained pretty much in various degrees for 16k but the scenery was spectacular along the way.  At about 16.5k we stopped at the Gillnetter for refreshments of the non alcoholic kind (Apple Crumble – mmmm…)  While we were in the Gillnetter the rain increased in intensity and the wind came up.  We wondered if it could rain any harder.  Larry and Sarah decided not to continue so Christina drove them back to the Running Room.  When Christina returned, she, Sue, Judy, and I set out for the remaining 11+k of the walk.  The rain let up after about 1.5k and we continued in dryer weather, even noticing a glimpse of sun further on.  It was a great route for scenery and we got the opportunity to try out our rain gear.  We got back to the Running Room at 4:30 in good shape and great spirits, happy to have completed the walk.  We are so lucky to have such great trails close to us and a Sergeant Major who knows the way, plans ahead to have a vehicle at the Gillnetter, chauffeurs walkers and continued the walk through Colony Farms with the rest of us so we wouldn’t get lost. You can’t ask for more than that.   I have been on several parts of the trail before and enjoyed putting it all together.  R A Edie
